What NFL draft picks is doing great right now: Week 6 edition

With this weeks NFL season, it’s time to look at some of the best NFL draft picks this season up to week 6. The votes are in and today, you’ll decide who is leaping the best hurdles and committing the most fumbles. Tired of how a specific team is doing? You might find your favorite quarterback or running back on this list! Here’s the spread, ready set hike!

QB Cam Newton: It’s obvious the guy can throw really well, because he’s 3rd in the league with quarterbacks like Drew Brees in the category. Cam Newton has lots of wins and throws very well in the red zone, but can he keep it up on the road to the super bowl? IHe’s only 14-for-31 in some games! Quarterbacks like Tom Brady know how to perform with high numbers every game, thus making them proficient with a great quarterback rating. Either way, it’s too soon to say but Newton’s pocket is doing well for sure with a four year, $22 million deal, with endorsements. Cam gets an A+ grade, as he is still the premier quarterback to watch this season.

Buffalo Bills go with Blaine Gabbert as their first round pick

In the upcoming draft, few teams have more holes to fill than the Buffalo Bills. The defense has been atrocious in recent years, and with the exception of the latter part of the 2010 season the offense was as anemic as they come.

Despite the fact that defense is the biggest worry in Buffalo, with the number 3 overall draft pick, look for the Bills to pick up Blaine Gabbert in an attempt to exercise the ghost of Jim Kelly. Gabbert is likely to spend his first season on the bench, learning the offense, while Ryan Fitzpatrick gets one more year to start for the Bills, and show all 32 teams what he can do, before the Gabbert era begins in Buffalo, and Fitzpatrick hits the open market.

Gabbert Has the size, and arm strength that coaches like to look for. He has excellent accuracy, and better than average mobility. Along with a quick release, and a noticeable ability to read defense Gabbert may

The coaches dramas, and victories too

You know how it is when the NFL season ends. First players are praised, naturally the Super Bowl team is looked at from every angle. Therir players are being looked at, their performances analysed, just like any other players actually. The stats and game info are being reviewed, compared, and discussed wildly for the next few weeks. But there is one aspect of the end of the Amazon season, and to me this is the sign of the season has ended.

Lions doomed or have hope for 2011?

It’s that time of year again for Detroit Lions fans. The regular season is now over and of course the Lions have not made the playoffs. So instead of rooting for your favorite team you’re rooting for your second favorite for the Super Bowl.

One consolation you may have is that Calvin Johnson was probably an excellent player for your fantasy team, and in some way you were actually able to root for the Lions this year as they picked up six wins.

suh Lions doomed or have hope for 2011?

The same question starts occurring in everyone’s mind. Are the Lions finally a quality organization or will they somehow through lack of leadership in the front offices have less wins next year than they did this Read the rest of this entry »

Steelers Bengals – Week 9 NFL action

Week nine in the NFL will see the Pittsburgh Steelers traveling to Ohio in an AFC north match up against the division rival Bengals. This is one of the most important games of the season for these two teams. For the Bengals a division win will help boost them towards a possible wild card berth in the play offs, while a win for the Steelers keeps them within half a game of the division leading Baltimore Ravens.

Last matchup highlights:

The Bengals have struggled in recent weeks. Despite much preseason hype, and some of the best weapons fielded by any team this year the Bengals have stumbled and tripped their way into a 2-5 record that has them sitting at the bottom of the division. While it is a difficult division to win in the Bengals are by no means eliminated from playoff contention, however a loss could change that. With Carson Palmer and Chad Ochocinco faltering before the pressure this year, it has fallen on the shoulders of T.O. To pick the ailing offense up. This task is made much more difficult because of the Cincinnati defense which has looked to be one of the weakest in the league.

The Steelers have been almost the polar opposite of their division rivals, fielding the third best record in the NFL. The Steelers started the season off at 3-1 without starting quarterback Ben Rothlisberger. Since his return they have gone 2-1, Read the rest of this entry »

Seahawks harass Cutler and beat Bears 23-20

The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Chicago Bears 23-20 for a signature win for first year coach Pete Carroll who said he plans on building on this win the rest of the season.

The Seattle Seahawks were coming off a bye week and were licking their chops in looking forward to facing the offensive line that had given up 10 sacks 2 weeks ago against the New York Giants. they were not disappointed, their defense sacked Jay cutler six times during the game and hurried him many other times. The only difference in these sacks from the week before against the Giants was the Seahawks did blitz and the bears much maligned offensive line had no answer at all. The pressure definitely got to Cutler who completed only 17 of his 39 pass attempts. Cutler said he felt fine after the game and felt no ill effects of the concussion suffered against the New York Giants 2 weeks ago.

Matt Hasselbeck threw for a season high 242 yards with one touchdown pass. The veteran signal caller completed 25 of 40 of his pass attempts and felt very good about the win. Mike Williams had a career high game with 10 catches and 123 yards receiving. Justin Forsett carried the ball 10 times for 67 yards and in his debut as a Seahawk, Marshawn Lynch carried the ball 17 times for 44 yards.

It was a rough day all around for the Bears who were 0 for 12 on third down conversions. The offensive line looked like Swiss cheese but quarterback Jay Cutler took ownership and acknowledged that he and the receivers need to make better decisions in when to get rid of the ball and when to break off a route early in the coverage.

Many leading analysts are beginning to question the wisdom in only running the ball a total of 14 times in a game when you are literally neck in neck with your opponent. The previous week the backup quarterback threw for only 39 yards and yet the Bears managed to win the game with an excellent rushing attack.

The Bears may indeed be at the top with a record of 4 wins and 2 losses, but is this fool’s gold soon to turn to dust in the face of the Bears and their fans. Only time will tell.

Atlanta Falcons vs Cleveland Browns Preview

This Sunday, the Atlanta Falcons will travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns. Atlanta is 3-1 on the year, and are 1st in the NFC South. Cleveland has a record of 1-3, which places them 4th in the AFC North. Atlanta comes into this game on a 3 game win streak while Cleveland won their last game, defeating Cincinnati 23-20.

Offensively, the Atlanta Falcons are having a great year, with their only loss coming in their first game of the season, against Pittsburgh. Atlanta currently sits 10th in passing yards per game with 233.5, and they rank 4th in rushing yards per game with 144.8. Matt Ryan, their quarterback, has been solid so far this year, throwing for 978 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. Roddy White, the Falcons’ star receiver, is always a threat, and he has shown that this year. So far, he has hauled in 32 catches for 362 yards and 2 touchdowns. Michael Turner, their star running back, has had a bit of a slow year, but he still has rushed for 281 yards and a touchdown on 74 carries.

Atlanta’s defense has not been great this year, but they have been solid. They sit 18th in the league in pass yards allowed with 224 per game, and they sit 11th in rush yards allowed with 96.3 per game. They have held the opposing team to 14 or fewer points in all but one game this year.

Cleveland has had a hard time getting their offense going this year, as they average 193 pass yards per game, which is 22nd in the league, and 116.5 rushing yards per game, which is 14th in the league. Currently, it is unknown whether Jake Delhomme or Seneca Wallace will start at quarterback. Delhomme is the first-string quarterback, but he has been dealing with an ankle injury.

Cleveland’s defense has struggled this year, allowing 235.8 passing yards per game, which is 24th in the league, and 108.8 rushing yards, which is 17th in the league. They have kept their team in games, though, as their 3 losses were by a combined 12 points.

Cleveland has to tighten up their defense to hope to beat Atlanta. They need to put pressure on Matt Ryan, and they need to defend the run against Michael Turner. With the advantage of playing at home, Cleveland should put up quite a fight against Atlanta.

The road to the Super XXXII Packers vs. 49ers NFC Championship game

The road to the Superbowl for the 97-98 season featured Steve Young and his San Francisco 49ers taking on the Brett Favre led Green Bay Packers at Candlestick Park.

The Packers had one goal in mind, to defend their Super Bowl Championship from a year before. Young and the 49ers were looking to reclaim of a conference that had been wrenched from them by the Packers for the last three years running.

In a first quarter that in which point came at a premium Green Bay would score first when Ryan Longwell kicked a short field goal after the Packers drive stalled on the 3 yard line. The rest of the first quarter would be a defense battle that stymied two of the games greatest quarterbacks.

In the second quarter future hall of famer Brett Favre would finally connect for the games first touchdown pass, a 27 yards to Antonio Freeman. Young and the 49ers would continue to struggle, managing only a field goal during the quarter. Green Bay kicker Longwell would add another three points in the quarter to make the score at half time 13-3 in favor of the Packers.

After half time San Francisco’s defense stepped up, and kept the Packers from scoring in the third quarter. However despite the efforts of the defense Steve Young and the 49ers offense still couldn’t connect, and were held to zero points in the third quarter as well.

Early in the fourth quarter Ryan Longwell would put another kick through the uprights to extend Green Bays lead to 16-3. San Francisco would attempt to rally once more, however the Packers defense would hold. With ball in hand once more Green Bay executed a long drive down the field, capping it off with a back breaking 5 yard touchdown run from Dorsey Levens, making the score 23.

On the ensuing kick off the 49ers Chuck Levy would return the ball 95 yards for a touchdown, however it would be too little too late, as the Pack finished the game with a score of 23-10, once again showing a dominant performance over the former NFC king pins.

Green Bay would go on to face the Elway led Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl. The Broncos would win that game with a score 31-24 after the Broncos stopped a late fourth quarter rally by the savvy Packers.

How to Bet on Football – The Point Spread and Money Line – Nflodds

Since 1965 the NFL has been the most popular sports league in America, this emergence has also increased betting activity on football matches, while sports  betting is illegal in most of America (with the exception of Nevada) betting on NFL football has continued through illegal bookmaker operations. The emergence has moved a lot of this action to offshore internet sites that still operate (with severe limitations) targeting football bettors.

The betting on football online is as simple as choosing a website, opening your account and placing your wager, while there are still some heavy restrictions on the movement of money, offshore bookmakers still accept some American players, when betting on football, players have many different types of wagers available. The most common method of betting is against the point spread, it is determined by odds makers to ensure that both teams received the same amount of wagers.

Look this is an example of a point spread:

The Miami Dolphins +7.5 -110

The New York Jets -7.5 -110

The team that has a plus in front of the spread number is usually considered the underdog; it will get the point listed in the odds added to their final score. As such if the match ended with the following score Miami 10 New York 14, the score on the bet would be Miami 17.5 New York 14 and a wager on Miami to cover would result in a win, it is a excellent example of nfl vegas odds.

The -110 determines the amount a player would have to risk to win $100 as such to win $10 on this match while betting for Miami Dolphins a player would need to wager $11, the remaining $1 is paid to the sports book operator for his services, an Alternate to point spread betting is money line betting, money line betting eliminates the point spread from the bet & instead uses direct odds to determine the price of each bet, the winner on a money line bet is determined from the final score with no changes. As such using the above example again but this time with money line numbers:

The Miami Dolphins +250

The New York Jets -330

In this case to odds can be explained in this way: a player must need to wager $100 on the Miami Dolphins and to win a payout of $250. To win $100 on the New York Jets the player must need to wager $330.

There is many other type of football betting options such as totals, parlays, proposition bets and futures but the point spread and money line are the most popular at nfl vegas odds, betting on football can definitely increase the joy of watching your team beating a hated rival, as long as they cover the spread.
